When I first began writing Whispers of Her Worth, I didn’t know exactly where the story would lead. What I did know was this: two sisters were waiting for me. When I began writing The Hotel Hamilton series, Clara arrived first, hesitant but thoughtful, her voice a whisper that carried weight. Louisa followed quickly, bold and ambitious, ready to charge into rooms Clara might never have dared to enter.
Together, they became the heart of this novel.
Clara: Quiet Reflection, Hidden Strength
Clara is the kind of character who listens before she speaks. She feels the expectations of her family, of society, pressing down on her shoulders. She longs to follow her own path but fears the consequences of stepping too far outside of what is expected of her.
She represents the quiet, unspoken struggles of so many women in history — and today. On the surface, Clara may seem hesitant. But beneath that quiet exterior lies a depth of strength, the kind that grows slowly and reveals itself only when it matters most.
Louisa: Bold Ambition, Unapologetic Voice
If Clara whispers, Louisa sings. She is vibrant, determined, and unwilling to be silenced. Louisa chafes against the limits imposed on her, daring to want more in a world that tells her to want less.
Where Clara sees walls, Louisa looks for doors — or windows to climb through. She represents the women who refused to wait politely for permission, who demanded more of life and of themselves.

Clara and Louisa’s fictional struggles unfold against the very real backdrop of 1928 Canada, when the Supreme Court declared women were not legally recognized as “persons.”
