Whether you’re a long-time reader of my books or just discovering me for the first time, I’m so glad you’re here. Today, I’m answering some of the most frequently asked questions I get from readers like you.
So let’s dive in!
It all began with a deep love of history—especially the untold stories of women who lived through defining eras. As a child, I was captivated by a historical fiction series where each book featured a female protagonist’s first name as the title. I wish I remembered the name of that series (if you know it, please tell me!). But it changed my life. That early exposure taught me that the quiet strength of everyday women deserved a voice—and I’ve been writing to honor that ever since.
The 20th century is my storytelling home. It was a time of sweeping change—from legal rights to fashion and family structures. Sometimes it’s a court case, a newspaper headline, or even an old building that sparks an idea. From there, I imagine a woman who might have lived through that moment, and how her story unfolds.
Because family shapes us—often in ways we don’t even realize. I’m fascinated by the love, silence, loyalty, and grief passed from generation to generation. These dynamics feel especially intense when placed in historical context, where societal norms and expectations create even higher emotional stakes.
Some are! Often, characters are inspired by a blend of real stories, people I’ve met, and the emotions I encounter during research. But even a tiny nugget—a phrase from a conversation or a historical detail—can ignite a whole character in my imagination.
I love research. Old newspaper archives, vintage clothing catalogs, slang dictionaries, train schedules—you name it, I’ve explored it. My goal is to weave authentic details into the story so the world feels real without overwhelming readers with facts.
If you enjoy slow-burn, emotional reads with strong female leads, I’d recommend beginning with The Smith Family Series. If you’re drawn to layered secrets and historical intrigue, try Growing into Greatness or The Bootlegger’s Betrayal. For a slightly softer touch, The Hotel Hamilton Series is a wonderful entry point. And if you’re ready to explore themes of grief and healing, All That Was might be for you.
Yes—especially in The Hotel Hamilton Series! I love weaving Easter eggs and bringing back beloved characters in new roles. Book 4, coming in Fall 2025, features a returning character whose story was too fun not to continue.
The role of women in bootlegging during Prohibition. Many ran full operations, challenging what we thought we knew about that era. This discovery inspired The Bootlegger’s Betrayal and gave me the perfect excuse to create a bold, resilient female lead.
Several readers have told me that my stories made them feel immersed, as if they were in the room with the characters. One woman shared that Becoming Mrs. Smith closely mirrored her own family’s history and reached her deeply—especially after a recent funeral. That’s why I write: to create emotional bridges between history, fiction, and real-life readers.
Oh, the dream! I would love to see Tom Hanks play John Smith in The Smith Family Series. And if you have casting suggestions be sure to reach out to me. My social links are below.
